    Ruggles Ferry Golf Club is an 18-hole public golf facility located in East Tennessee, fifteen minutes from downtown Knoxville, in Strawberry Plains. The course opened in 2001 and has Dominate Bentgrass greens and Tifsport fairways.

    We are currently seeking a hands on, hardworking individual that will experience all aspects of golf course maintenance. Attention to details and a can-do attitude is very important. This job will include but is not limited to, ride mowing greens, course set up, bunker maintenance, using moisture meter on greens and hand syringing, calibrating and applying fertilizer, calibrating and spraying pesticides, irrigation repair, reel grinding and back lapping. Mechanical ability is a plus.

    Golf Course Equipment Manager

    Golf Course:  Clarksville Country Club is an 18-hole Private Club with bentgrass- greens and 419-Bermuda tees and fairways. 

    Job Qualifications:Applicant must have experience as a head or assistant mechanic in the golf industry.  Applicant must be well versed in grinding reels along with all other reel work.

    Requirements and Expectations: 

    1.  Works directly with superintendent ordering parts and fuel; and making sure that the crew is treating equipment appropriately.
    2. Administering preventative and routine maintenance on all golf course equipment while also being able to perform maintenance out of the shop for operating issues out in the field.
    3. Applicant must have troubleshooting capabilities.
    4. Must be proficient in time management during the busy season while assuring all priorities are in order.
    5. Is accountable for any and all equipment and tools. (Tools are provided)
    6. Keeping a maintenance log on routine and other maintenance performed on equipment.
    7. Keeping all cutting equipment performing at a very high level with a routine grinding and back-lapping program.
    8. Keeping a clean and organized shop.

    Compensation and Benefits:  Salary will be based on experience.

    Purpose of Job

    Assist the Crew Chief by being responsible for repairing and maintaining safe playing surfaces and its surrounding components for baseball, softball, football and multipurpose fields by performing daily turf, dirt and water management; timely fertility and cultural practices; game preparation techniques and short and long-term maintenance planning.  Responsibilities also include 10- disc golf course, basketball courts and tennis courts.

    Must be able to work holidays, weekends and nights during sporting/special events.

    Essential Job Duties 

    Turf maintenance: 

    • Properly manages and maintains turf on all athletic fields within the Parks and Recreation Department grounds.
    • Mows, trims, edges, fertilizes, sods, aerates, and irrigates turf using commercial grade equipment.
    • Maintains, repairs and installs irrigation systems on athletic fields. Assist in controlling the entire irrigation system that includes, but is not limited to, proper water management of the playing surface and outside landscape, periodic maintenance checks, repairing of leaking lines or valves, and winterization.
    • Paints outfield foul lines, numbers, and logos on all athletic fields.
    • Performs general maintenance as necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition.

    Infield maintenance

    • Properly maintains infields on all athletic fields within the Parks and Recreation Department grounds.
    • Drags, rakes, conditions, and replenishes materials as needed to maintain infields.
    • Prepares fields for games by grooming field, chalking base path foul lines and marking coaching boxes.
    • Builds and maintains all bases, mounds and other field necessities.
    • Responsible for coordination and execution of infield tarps on daily basis and during tournaments.                           

    Job Requirements:

    Education and Experience: The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through obtaining an associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one to two year related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in turfgrass management. 

    Required Certifications/Licenses:

    A Tennessee Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicators License for C03 is required for this job. (Must be obtained within 6 months)

    Job Overview

    Reporting directly to the Club General Manager the Superintendent is responsible for comprehensive golf course management and upkeep. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, turf management programs, property/asset management, personnel management and development, financial management including budget and forecasting, member relations, irrigation system oversight and administering pesticide applications. The Superintendent works to foster an environment where staff is involved, informed and enthusiastic. Through open communication, the Superintendent will build positive relationships with members, guests and other Club department heads.

    Requirements

    Basic Functions

    • Responsible for all phases of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations, cost control and personnel
    • Works directly with the General Manager to maintain golf course in a fiscally responsible and professional manner
    • Work independently and be a self-starting problem starter
    • Oversee the care and maintenance of turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetlands on the facility grounds
    • Directs and assists staff with planting of new vegetation, maintaining and periodically removing and replacing trees and tending to high stress areas
    • Recruits, supervises and retains maintenance staff. Conducts regular employee evaluation and exercises disciplinary action if necessary
    • Oversees staff in the proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment

    • Schedule maintenance around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members

    Knowledge & Skills Required

    • Knowledge of management and maintenance of greens, fairways and roughs
    • Knowledge of use of equipment and tools used for golf course maintenance
    • Skill in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating employees
    • As required have the proper certifications for safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products used in maintaining the course
    • Cursory knowledge of the game of golf, rules and methods of play
    • Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment and material needs related to golf course maintenance and repair assignments
    • Ability and knowledge to layout irrigation and drainage patterns

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Three to five years’ experience as a Golf Superintendent or 1stAssistant

    Supervises, trains and assists a group of maintenance personnel in the performance of routine care and maintenance work for an 18 or a 27-hole golf course under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent II. Inspects machinery and equipment to determine their operating condition and repair needs. Purchases supplies for the park and golf course. Performs public relations functions. Maintains operating records and makes reports of park and golf activities. Prepares reports, summaries and recommendations pertaining to golf course development.
