    Seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as an assistant superintendent. WindRiver is located just south of Knoxville, TN on lake Tellico. Expectations for this position are high. You will be required to perform all duties on the course to include crew management, spraying, fertilizer apps, and irrigation. You will report directly to the superintendent, and must have an eye for detail while understanding the demands of this business. In 2020 we will be undergoing a complete greens renovation to Prism Zoysia.

    The course is a Bob Cupp design consisting of 18 holes with 419 tees fairways and rough with bentgrass greens.

    Educational Requirements
    Minimum associates degree in a turf related field.

    Job Summary

    Perform all necessary pesticide and fertilizer applications on golf course and landscape areas following pre-determined schedules and special requests. Verify that all pesticides are applied according to label directions and that safety precautions are followed. Comply with all guidelines of state and federal statues and in such a manner as to pose the least possible risks to the employees, guests, and the environment. Maintain true and accurate records of inspections, locations, amounts and types of pest control materials utilized in the course of assigned tasks. Maintain pesticide inventory records. Maintain chemical room in a neat and orderly fashion. Supervise and train landscapers on routine golf course maintenance tasks. Monitor all pest levels and thresholds. Perform routine golf course maintenance tasks as need, including moving fairways, changing holes, and mowing greens. Assist management in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, and motivating and coaching employees; and serve as a role model and first point of contact of the Guarantee of Fair Treatment/Open Door Policy process. Provide assistance to coworkers, verifying they understand their tasks. 

    Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; verify uniform and personal appearances are clean and professional. Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information and protect company assets. Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager. Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate and address guests’ service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank guests with genuine appreciation. Speak with others using clear and professional language; answer telephones using appropriate etiquette. Prepare and review written documents accurately and completely; read and visually verify information in a variety of formats. Comply with quality assurance expectations and standards.     The essential function of the position within the organization is to perform chemical applications on golf course properties under the supervision of the golf course Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent.  Responsible for reading, understanding and keeping current with material safety data sheets (MSDS).

    SUMMARY:

    • Performs all spraying duties as direct by the Superintendent or the Assistant Superintendent.
    • Performs regular golf course maintenance duties when not occupied with spraying or fertilizing.
    • Checks regularly the course for pest and nutrition related problems and reporting all findings to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
    • Prepares routine and special reports of all operations, which includes application rates, spraying settings, weather conditions, pest symptoms and quantities of materials used.
    • Keeps an up-to-date and accurate inventory of all pesticides and fertilizers and reporting any shortfall to the Superintendent and/or Assist. Superintendent.
    • Organizes and maintains fertilizer and pesticide storage building.
    • Regularly calibrates fertilizer and chemical applicators.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Requires high school diploma or GED, and an Associate degree in Golf Course & Turfgrass Management.  Must obtain the TN Department of Agriculture category 03 pesticide applicator certification within 6 months from date of hire.  A minimum of 2 years golf course maintenance experience is required.  Must have a strong background in disease identification, insect technology, weed identification, and nutrient deficiencies as they apply to turf-grass maintenance.

    Purpose of Job

    Assist the Crew Chief by being responsible for repairing and maintaining safe playing surfaces and its surrounding components for baseball, softball, football and multipurpose fields by performing daily turf, dirt and water management; timely fertility and cultural practices; game preparation techniques and short and long-term maintenance planning.  Responsibilities also include 10- disc golf course, basketball courts and tennis courts.

    Essential Job Duties 

    Turf maintenance: 

    • Properly manages and maintains turf on all athletic fields within the Parks and Recreation Department grounds.
    • Mows, trims, edges, fertilizes, sods, aerates, and irrigates turf using commercial grade equipment.
    • Maintains, repairs and installs irrigation systems on athletic fields. Assist in controlling the entire irrigation system that includes, but is not limited to, proper water management of the playing surface and outside landscape, periodic maintenance checks, repairing of leaking lines or valves, and winterization.
    • Paints outfield foul lines, numbers, and logos on all athletic fields.
    • Performs general maintenance as necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition.

    Infield maintenance

    • Properly maintains infields on all athletic fields within the Parks and Recreation Department grounds.
    • Drags, rakes, conditions, and replenishes materials as needed to maintain infields.
    • Prepares fields for games by grooming field, chalking base path foul lines and marking coaching boxes.
    • Builds and maintains all bases, mounds and other field necessities.
    • Responsible for coordination and execution of infield tarps on daily basis and during tournaments.                           

    Job Requirements:

    Education and Experience: The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through obtaining an associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one to two year related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in turfgrass management. 

    Required Certifications/Licenses:

    A Tennessee Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicators License for C03 is required for this job. (Must be obtained within 6 months)

    Hernando Golf & Country Club is a private club in Hernando, Mississippi with an 18-hole golf course, driving range, new tennis courts, and a new swimming pool. We are seeking to hire a working golf course superintendent.

    Position: Superintendent

    Reports To: General Manager

    Position Summary:

    Responsible for all activities related to the care and maintenance of the golf course, grounds, and equipment. Plan and implement budgets. Hire, train and supervise staff. Apply relevant landscaping, horticultural principles to assure that quality standards are consistently achieved and/or exceeded.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Develop the annual maintenance budget and operating plan. Implement the plan according to Company operating policies and procedures to ensure cost containment.
    • Plan and implement staffing schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved at minimum employee cost.
    • Maintain the golf course in proper playing condition according to Company standards.
    • Develop and maintain drainage, irrigation, pumping and water reservoir systems.
    • Supervise all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, and trees on the golf course and grounds. Develop and implement a fertilizer, aeration and Integrated Pest Management program for proper turf grass and plant care.
    • Supervise course construction projects.
    • Supervise equipment maintenance and repair operations. Establish and implement a cleaning and preventative maintenance program for appropriate equipment, tools, vehicles, etc.
    • Ensure maintenance of all appropriate quality and cleanliness standards including, but not limited to, employee hygiene and uniforms, equipment repair areas, equipment storage areas, chemical and fertilizer storage areas, receiving areas, washing areas, etc.
    • Implement and monitor the purchase ordering and receiving program to maintain proper inventories of supplies and ensure proper quantity and price on all purchases.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA rules and regulations, relating to chemical and fertilizer storage and disposal, employee safety, public safety, etc.
    • Manage employment activities for applicable staff members, including but not limited to, personnel recruitment and selection, performance evaluations, training, compensation, discipline and termination, etc.
    • Maintain knowledge of current and projected industry developments through continuous attention to industry periodicals and participation in relevant trade associations and organizations.
    • Maintain accurate records for pertaining to department activities including, but not limited to, labor schedules, course maintenance, construction activities, equipment repair, safety meetings and activities, fertilizer and chemical applications and pest control practices.
    • Assure the efficient and timely submission of all required operational, financial, budgetary and related reports.
    • Perform other duties as appropriate.

    Qualifications:

    • High school education required; college degree preferred.
    • 5 years applicable functional, supervisory and/or management experience, preferably in the golf industry.
    • Demonstrated experience and capability in the areas of budget development, fiscal management, strategic planning, staff management.
    • Demonstrated quality written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.
    • Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.

    Classification:

    Full-time, Non-Seasonal, Salaried, Exempt

    Working Conditions:

    Work hours may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. May be exposed to inclement weather, potentially dangerous chemicals, solvents, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, misdirected golf balls, sharp and rapid equipment movement on a daily basis. Injury may result as a result of exposure to the above if safety policies and practices are not properly followed.

    Machine/Equipment/Tools Used:

    General office machines such as personal computers, printers, copiers, calculators, telephones, etc. Golf cars, trucks, spray equipment, mowers, heavy machinery.

    Physical Requirements:

    Must have the ability to:

    Lonesome Pine Country Club is an 18 hole golf course in southwest Virginia about 50 miles northwest from Bristol and we are accepting applications for an assistant superintendent. This position will be expressly for training an individual to take over as superintendent. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical background  as well as good people and leadership skills. They should understand the rules of golf and how they apply to golf course maintenance and course set up. Must be able to obtain a Virginia spray license. Some irrigation experience as far as repairs and programming is preferred. Our pay scale starts at $15 an hour and will go up accordingly as assistant proves capabilities.
